In conversation: Stylist Leigh Williams on finding your personal style and staying grounded through life’s unpredictable rhythms.

July 14, 2025

Leigh and I met at a shoot in Byron Bay a few years ago, and I’ve admired her style ever since. We instantly bonded over our living situations, which at the time felt a little all over the place! We were both freelancing, me as a model and Leigh as a stylist. And with the freedom to work from anywhere, it was tough to decide where to settle. We quickly realized we both need a balance of city life and nature to feel grounded. Since then, so much has changed. Leigh now offers wardrobe styling sessions which, if you’re anything like me and often unsure what to wear, are an absolute game-changer. Even better, she offers them remotely, so you can tap into her advice no matter where you are.

Read along to find out what inspired Leigh to become a stylist and how she stays grounded amidst an unpredictable schedule.

How do you start your day?
Hot water with fresh lemon and ginger every single morning. I've been doing this for 15+ years now and I feel off whenever I'm somewhere I cant have it. On an ideal day, this will be followed by a moment looking / being outside, movement of some kind - walk, swim, yoga or weight training - and journaling. Other days, it's running straight to an early call time.

What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me means mental clarity, contentment and calm. If my mind is scattered, overthinking, overwhelmed or being harsh to myself, then I don't feel well. Honouring the ebs and flows of the mind, whilst being present and kind to myself is my practice in wellness. And it's an ongoing practice.

Do you have any daily rituals?
Yes! These are often based around my senses. I like to listen to a podcast or music whilst making dinner or packing for a shoot. I always have a natural scent on the go - the Basium sunset oil diffusing is my favourite. It's so grounding. I like to read - usually a non-fiction book in the morning and a novel at night before bed. And finally, I sit for weekly tea ceremonies at Cloud Hidden when I'm in Byron.

What inspired you to become a stylist?
Magazines! I was obsessed with them as a child. I used to even make my own ha. I loved the escapism of the worlds created within the pages, I was so inspired. In my early 20s I worked many internships on the fashion desk at various magazines in London, eventually working my way up to a Fashion Assistant, Stylist and then freelance Stylist and brand consultant. Nowadays I'm inspired by the authentic expression we each have to how we dress. I'm fascinated by the reasons we are drawn to what we are. People are becoming more focused on who they are, rather than what's on trend, and that's exciting to me.

How do fashion and wellness connect for you?
Connecting to how we want to feel when we get dressed creates an inner sense of self, which is the foundation of wellness in our day to day. What we wear is a huge part of that. How we get dressed each morning is a ritual, like any other.

How can scent enhance personal style?
I think scent is sooo personal. I have a very strong sense of what scents I like and don't. We all experience scent differently, it's unique for each of us and so we are drawn to what is right for us. This creates a sense of individuality and that's all that personal style is.

You divide your time between London and Australia — what wardrobe piece is always in your suitcase when you travel?
My Agolde jeans, a Nagnata shawl, American Vintage sweater, my Lemaire croissant bag and Basium's Flora perfume oil. This never leaves my bag.

How does your daily routine differ between Byron Bay and London?
Wildly! Byron Bay is all about the mornings and London is all about the evenings. Even my sleep patterns change, but I love that. I am a person of very polarising needs ha.

What are your goals for the year ahead?
Be kind to myself, explore new avenues in business and travel somewhere new.
